Smurfs Party Supplies – The Background
Smurfs Party Supplies are based on The Smurfs, a comic book series created by Peyo. The Smurfs comics were the basis of the animated TV series made in 1980s as well as the American 3D family films made in 2011 and 2013.
Smurfs 2 Movie
The Smurfs 2 is an American 3D family comedy film that was released on July 31, 2013. It is a sequel to the 2011 film The Smurfs and the second part of a projected trilogy. It is based on Belgian comics artist Peyo’s The Smurfs comic-book series. The film is produced by Sony Pictures Animation, directed by Raja Gosnell and distributed by Columbia Pictures.
The film’s live action cast includes Neil Patrick Harris, Brendan Gleeson, Jacob Tremblay, Jayma Mays, Katy Perry, Nancy O’Dell and Hank Azaria. Voice over cast includes Jonathan Winters, Fred Armisen, Alan Cumming, Katy Perry, Anton Yelchin, George Lopez, Christina Ricci, John Oliver, J. B. The plot of Smurfs 2 begins from where the story of the first Smurfs film ended. Smurfette is having nightmares that she has betrayed her fellow Smurfs and turned them over to Gargamel to be captured. The Smurfs are secretly arranging a surprise party for Smurfette’s birthday. When Smurfette tries to find out what is going on, no one tells her a thing. She thinks that she is now not welcome in the village as a Smurf.
Gargamel has now become a star attraction in Paris but he finds that magic powers providing Smurf essence is running low. He plans to kidnap Smurfette to get Papa Smurf’s secret formula for creating Smurfs. He uses Eiffel tower as a conduit to open a portal to the Smurf village but it is too small for him to go through, so he sends Vexy to bring Smurfette to Paris.
One of the Smurfs sees the abduction and informs Papa Smurf who, using magic, creates crystals that would take Smurfs to Patrick Winslow for taking his help. Brainy, Hefty, and Gutsy had to go along with Papa but accidently Clumsy, Grouchy and Vanity use them. Papa and the three Smurfs arrive in the New York discover where Gargamel is, and along with Winslows, they set off for Paris to find him.
In Paris, Patrick, his wife Grace and Victor distract Gargamel while he is performing and the Smurfs reach backstage looking for Smurfette and discover what Gargamel is planning. Meanwhile, Smurfette escapes and Vexy and her partner Hackus chase after her. They get hold of her and bring her back. When Gargamel returns, he gives her very own tiny dragon wand as a gift and tries to convince her that he is actually her father and Papa Smurf never loved her.
Smurfette still does not want to give her secret to Gargamel, but when she sees that due to a lack of Smurf essence the Naughties are dying, she quickly writes down the secret formula and with the help of it Gargamel turns the Naughties into real Smurfs and then puts them into his Smurfalator to carry out the rest of his plan.
Meanwhile Patrick, Victor, and the Smurfs are working together to rescue Smurfette but the Smurfs are captured. They are then put into the Smurfalator to be used as material to power Gargamel’s bigger dragon wand. But Patrick and Victor arrive and destroy the Smurfalator. In the process, the Smurf-created formula is destroyed in blue pixie dust.
But, the evil wizard has gained enough power to be able to use his new wand against the Smurfs and their friends. But, Vexy and Hackus support the Smurfs against their former master. They use the new wand to blast him away. Gargamel falls onto the Notre Dame Cathedral and a stone vulture, who comes to life, throws him to the top of the Eiffel Tower. There the fireworks set off and send him in the air. With Gargamel out of picture, the two new Smurfs, Vexy and Hackus, bid goodbye to the Winslows and go back home with the rest of the Smurfs.
Smurfs Movie
The movie stars Neil Patrick Harris, Jayma Mays, Hank Azaria, and Sofía Vergara. The movie is directed by Raja Gosnell and is the first CGI/live-action hybrid film that is produced by Sony Pictures Animation. The movie was known as The Smurfs Movie during the early production.
Initially, Jordan Kerner had bought the film rights in 2002 (after five years of negotiations) and was trying to make the film with Nickelodeon Movies and Paramount Pictures. But later, in 2008, Sony Pictures Animation and Columbia Pictures got the film rights and in March 2010, the filming was started in New York City.
The Smurfs was released on July 29, 2011 by Columbia Pictures after changing the release date three times. The movie was declared as a box office success.
The plot of the movie is quite interesting. The Smurfs are getting ready for the Blue Moon Festival. Papa Smurf sees some visions when he is in his home. He sees that the Smurfs are in cages, Gargamel has become powerful. He also sees Clumsy Smurf holding a dragon wand. Papa Smurf decides to stop Clumsy from picking Smurf Roots, but Clumsy secretly picks them anyway. Gargamel sees him and goes after him into the village. All the Smurfs run away and Clumsy enters into a forbidden cave. Papa Smurf, along with Gutsy, Grouchy, Smurfette, and Brainy see him entering the cave and run after him. They locate him at the edge of a cliff and try to pull him up. But in the process, they get sucked into a giant vortex, and reach New York. There they meet a married and expectant couple, Patrick and Grace. They become friends and are allowed to stay in their apartment.
Papa Smurf comes to know that in a couple nights he will be able to get them all home. But, to do so, he must find out the spell to do so. Patrick informs them that in the city there is an old book store that may have a spell book. They reach there and start searching for a spell book and ultimately the book containing the spell and it is one of their own comic books! Gargamel comes to know about their location and he enters the book store and steals a dragon wand from there and uses it to abduct Papa. Although the Smurfs promise Papa not to try to save him, Clumsy stays behind, and along with Patrick, plans a rescue. Other Smurfs, too, agree to help.
Gargamel plans to become more powerful than anything else in the world by removing the Smurf essence from Papa and charging it into the dragon wand. Patrick and the Smurfs fight with Gargamel. Meanwhile Smurfette saves Papa. Brainy opens up the portal by reading the spell and goes home to round up his friends. They come back to join the fight. Papa is captured again by Gargamel and he throws him into the air. Patrick saves Papa by catching him. As Gargmel is about to destroy them both using the dragon wand, Gutsy knocks it out of his hand. Clumsy runs to catch it and Papa thinks that he won’t succeed. But Papa is surprised when Clumsy manages to catch it.
Gargamel is powerless without the dragon wand. Papa destroys it once and for all. The Smurfs return home. Patrick and Grace are gifted with a baby boy. They name him Blue. The Smurfs rebuild their houses. Their houses resemble the houses made by humans.
In the movie, Neil Patrick Harris is cast as Patrick Winslow, Jayma Mays as Grace Winslow and Hank Azaria as Gargamel. Apart from these main characters, Sofía Vergara is cast as Odile, Tim Gunn as Henri. Joan Rivers, Liz Smith, Tom Colicchio, Olivia Palermo and Michael Musto also have played important roles in the movie.
