On many islands of Philippines, Malaysia and Indonesia, pigs have been isolated for long from other pigs and these have evolved into various different species like wild boar, warty pigs and bearded pigs. Pigs have been brought to America (North and South), Australia and other various islands.

Although pigs are omnivores, in the wild they are foraging animals and mostly consume leaves, fruits, grasses, flowers and roots. Domesticated pigs are given mostly soybean and corn meal. Sometimes, a mixture of minerals and vitamins are also added to their meals.

Pigs are raised by farmers as livestock for meat and leather. The meat of the pig is called bacon, pork, gammon or hams. Pigs have bristly hairs that are used to manufacture brushes.
